Burgess's Genuine Anchovy Paste Advertising Pot

This item is an antique Burgess's Genuine Anchovy Paste advertising pot lid and base.  The company was founded by John Burgess in 1760.  Burgess's anchovy products were so renowned they were carried by Admiral Nelson on the HMS Victory and by Captain Scott to the Antarctic.  The lid features a Royal Coat of Arms with a lion and a unicorn.  The crown shown is specifically the Victorian crown.  Lids with this specific address and crown typically date from approximately 1850 to 1900.  This pot was excavated from a Victorian dump site.  Staining and crazing are present.
