Robinson Brothers Codd Bottle
This is an antique Codd neck soda bottle manufactured by Robinson Brothers in Ulverston. These bottles, invented in 1872 by Hiram Codd in England, utilize a glass marble and a rubber gasket in the neck to seal carbonated beverages. The pressure from the carbonated liquid forces the marble upward to seal the bottle, white a pinched neck prevents the marble from blocking the flow when drinking. Complete examples of these bottles are increasingly collectible as children historically broke them to retrieve the marbles.
