English Pratt Ware Lidded Pot "The Cavalier" c1860-1870

Available is an English Pratt Ware lidded pot with an illustration called "The Cavalier" depicting a scene of a rider in colorful Victorian-style attire greeting two women beside a stone archway.  The production technique was developed by Felix Edward Pratt and master engraver Jesse Austin.  It was made using a ground-breaking underglaze multicolor transfer printing process.  This process layered distinct colors from copper plates before glazing, ensuring the colors would never fade.  This pot has chips on the rim of the lid and on the base as shown in the pictures.  It was recovered from a Victorian dig site.
