English Ironstone Scale Plate

English Ironstone Scale Plate

Available is an English ironstone scale plate manufactured by William Ellis in Burslem, England around 1900.  It features a black transfer print illustration representing "Justitia et Fides" (Justice and Fidelity), depicting a figure with a balance scale, a robed figure, and a lion.  These plates were commonly used as platforms for antique countertop balance scales to weigh goods such as meat, dairy, or produce in Victorian-era grocery stores.  There is one "flea bite" at the bottom edge of the front.

10" diameter, 3/8" thick
Weight 2.02 lb.

This is a vintage/antique, pre-owned item with normal wear due to its age.
