Cherry Toothpaste Lidded Pot

Cherry Toothpaste Lidded Pot

Available is a Victorian-era ironstone lidded toothpaste pot, circa 1880 to 1900.  Toothpaste was sold as a thick paste or paste-pot formula.  Customers dipped their toothbrushes directly into these ceramic pots.  Cherry and Arica nut were among the most popular flavors.  They were heavily marketed by Victorian chemists for "beautifying and preserving the teeth and gums".  This pot has been recovered from a Victorian dump site.  There are a few chips on the inside rim of the bottom of the pot.
