Vintage Glass Virol Pot

Vintage Glass Virol Pot

This is a vintage amber glass Virol pot used for a nutritional malt supplement popular in the early 20th century.  Virol resembled a thick, sweet, dark treacle syrup.  It was first introduced in 1899 as an experimental health food developed by the prominent meat-extract company Bovril.  The product was heavily marketed through the early to mid-20th century to nourish growing children, pregnant women, and the infirm.  Children were routinely given a daily spoonful of Virol at school and home to combat anemia and rickets, and it was often spread directly onto toast.

5 1/2" tall

This is a vintage/antique, pre-owned item with normal wear due to its age.
