Very Stained & Crazed French Mustard Pot
Available is a very stained and crazed French mustard pot from the Victorian-era. This specific shape with the tapered shoulders and narrowed neck was highly characteristic of mid-to-late 19th century French culinary pottery. It allowed the jar to be plugged tightly with a cork. These rustic crocks were everyday staples in French bistros and home kitchens to preserve stone-ground mustard. This pot has a chip at the base as shown in the pictures. It has been recovered from a Victorian dig site.
