Tooled Leather-Bound Poetical Works of John Dryden , printed 1857
Tooled Leather-Bound Poetical Works of John Dryden, printed 1857. It features gilt-on-red under-gilt edges. This beautifully bound volume features an inscription dated 1864: "Tindal Arthur Pearson with the best wishes of George W. Luining on his leaving Eaton Election 1864." A classic Eton "leaving book"—a treasured tradition where departing classmates received specially bound volumes from close friends. The recipient, born 1846, was 18 when he left Eton College before moving to India to pursue a career as a legal scholar. Adorned with stunning black and white illustrations throughout. A meaningful piece of Victorian literary history and personal connection.
