Antique Slaterbury Stoneware Ginger Beer Bottle
Available is an antique stoneware ginger beer bottle, c1880-1900. These bottles were durable, non-porous alternatives to glass used for transporting ginger beer until the early 20th century. Slaterbury refers to John Slater, a prominent 19th-century aerated water and ginger beer manufacturer based in Bury, Greater Manchester, England. The thick "blob top" lip was designed to be tightly wired down over a cork stopper to contain the pressure of the naturally carbonated ginger beer. No chips or cracks on this bottle. It was reclaimed from a Victorian dig site.
